Maritime New Zealand chairs and services a consultative group that oversees the development of a robust national safety system, centred on the implementation of the New Zealand Port and Harbour Marine Safety Code.
The Committee represents a wide range of organisations with an interest in and responsibilities for port and harbour safety: shipowners, maritime pilots, port and terminal operators, insurers, seafarers, ships’ masters, and central and local Government agencies concerned with navigational safety, protection of the environment, occupational health, and transport policy.
