Changes to Maritime Rules Part 90: Pilotage

On 1 April 2011 changes to pilotage requirements for Pilotage Exemption Certificate (PEC) holders were introduced by Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) following widespread consultation with industry.

Applying for a Pilotage Exemption Certificate (PEC)

As part of the PEC application, you will be required to undertake training in accordance with an Approved PEC Training Programme and pass a practical, written and oral PEC examination. You will need to contact the local Harbourmaster for details. Once you have successfully completed the examination, the Harbourmaster will send a letter confirming this to MNZ. You should then apply to MNZ for a PEC.
