Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) publishes safety bulletins and marine guidance notices on a variety of safety issues and proposals relating to these. The bulletins and notices are published as required, and are distributed to those sectors directly involved. We welcome any comments you have on the recommendations and content in general. Safety bulletins are used to alert people to a specific and significant marine hazard in any arena of Maritime New Zealand’s operations, for example health and safety, rules or codes. Where an incident has occurred, safety bulletins bring the hazard and any related issues to industry’s attention with the aim to avoid a similar incident.

Guidance notices provide supporting information on specific technical issues or areas. Generally these notices do not cover technical issues that have already been covered by an existing advisory circular.

Marine Notices have now been replaced with safety bulletins and guidance notices.
Historically, there were three types of Marine Notices: Boat Notices, Ship Notices and Miscellaneous Notices. These are now all under review.
