The Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ) is continuing to monitor the progress of two Australian kayakers, who are now underway after fixing rudder problems reported early today.
Crossing the Ditch Expedition kayakers James Castrission and Justin Jones are approximately 850km from Cape Reinga and 170km inside New Zealand’s Search and Rescue Region.
RCCNZ Search and Rescue Officer Neville Blakemore said the kayaker’s support team was providing regular updates to RCCNZ, and the pair were making slow and steady progress towards New Zealand.
Mr Blakemore said a rope which had been tangled in the kayak’s rudder hampering their progress had been cleared.
“RCCNZ will continue to keep track of the kayakers’ progress and is on standby to help should there be any calls for assistance.”
