Search to Resume for Missing Diver

11 November 2008: 6:00am

The search for the diver missing 20 nautical miles (36km) off the Timaru coast will resume at 8am this morning.

“This morning’s search will focus on an area similar to yesterday and weather conditions in the area are expected to remain clear,” says Christine Wilson, Search and Rescue Officer, Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand.

The Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ) launched the search yesterday afternoon when the diver was reported overdue.

Two rescue helicopters and six vessels spent the yesterday afternoon through until 9pm searching the area off the Timaru coast.  One vessel remained in the area while two helicopters equipped with night-vision equipment searched through until midnight last night, before returning to base.

No further details are available at this stage.  Further updates will be provided as any new information comes to light.
