Search for missing helicopter under way

  5 November 2005

Two helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft are searching for a missing helicopter in a large area of the North Island between Raglan and Wanganui today.

At 5.40am a fixed-wing aircraft began searching in-land, and a helicopter began searching the coastline. Another helicopter is flying between farms in the Raglan area, to check whether anyone has any information.

The last sighting of the helicopter was on radar at 10.14am yesterday morning just south of Raglan Harbour.

The helicopter left Ardmore Airport at 9.45am yesterday morning, and the pilot was expected to stop to refuel at Wanganui and Rangiora on his way to Queenstown. They were due to arrive in Queenstown at about 4pm yesterday afternoon.

The pilot is from Auckland, and the second man is an overseas visitor to New Zealand.

RCCNZ cannot release further information about the two men at this time.
