Search for missing crew to continue tomorrow

  7 November 2005

Despite 20 helicopters covering over 10,000 square kilometres, today’s search for the crew of a missing helicopter has failed to find any sign of the missing men.

The last helicopter finished searching at around 7.30pm this evening.

Rescue Coordination Centre NZ (RCCNZ) will continue tomorrow’s search in an area from Raetihi across to Ohakune and southwards to Wanganui.

Searchers are expected to take off from Wanganui and Raetihi at first light tomorrow, weather and light permitting.

The search is likely to involve fewer helicopters than today due to the smaller nature of the area but RCCNZ General Manager Chris Raley says the search will continue until all possibilities have been exhausted.

“We will keep going until all leads have been followed up, all the most likely areas have been covered and we are out of options.”
