Yacht on its way to Picton

  5 January 2006

A New Caledonian man and his damaged yacht Xiphos are safely on their way to Picton and are expected to arrive early this evening.

The tug Nautilus 3 managed to attach a towrope to Xiphos at about 2.30pm this afternoon after taking over the tow from the fishing boat Mako in the Port Gore area.

The yacht’s owner is still on board after returning to Xiphos during an unsuccessful salvage attempt early on Wednesday morning.

While the Rescue Coordination Centre NZ continues to monitor the situation and provide advice where needed, today’s activities are a private salvage operation and will be paid for by the boat’s owner.
