The Master will now be required to use a Pilot on board in the area until he undergoes further training.
The report also supports the work being done by the Auckland Regional Harbourmaster, in conjunction with Ports of Auckland Limited to assist masters around Onehunga wharf.
This work includes:
- Developing guidelines to determine whether it is safe or not to sail in marginal weather conditions;
- Upgrading and repositioning the anemometer; and
- Identifying the area’s risks in the development of the Port and Harbour Safety Code.
