25 NOVEMBER 2007 - 10:30PM
Rescue Coordination Centre NZ (RCCNZ) has directed the successful rescue of a 64-year-old Motueka man, after strong winds caused his microlight to crash on hills in the Marlborough Sounds earlier today. The man walked away from the crash unhurt.
RCCNZ received a distress call via cellphone at 5pm from the man’s son, who was flying behind him in a second microlight and became concerned when he lost sight of his father, an experienced pilot.
RCCNZ called in a helicopter from Nelson Helicopters to assist in the search, which located the crashed aircraft on Crichton’s Hill, in remote country just north of French Pass near D’Urville Island. |

The pair had been flying from Foxpine, near Levin, to Motueka when the crash occurred. The wrecked aircraft has been secured and will be recovered at a later date.
The pilot is Lyle Hart, of Motueka.
