Maritime New Zealand chairs and
services a consultative group that oversees the development of a
robust national safety system, centred on the implementation of
the New Zealand Port and Harbour Marine Safety Code.
The Committee represents a wide range
of organisations with an interest in and responsibilities for port
and harbour safety: shipowners, maritime pilots, port and terminal
operators, insurers, seafarers, ships’ masters, and central
and local Government agencies concerned with navigational safety,
protection of the environment, occupational health, and transport
