No sign of man overboard

25 April 2007, 12:15am

There has been no sign of a 54-year-old crewman missing overboard from a Korean fishing vessel despite a thorough search of the surrounding area.

Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ) has been running a search since they were contacted by the vessel’s agent at about 6pm this evening. A search area of about 10 square kilometres was covered tonight by three vessels, Paerangi - a NZ fishing vessel, Kakariki - a NZ tanker and the Lyttelton Coastguard boat Canterbury Draught Rescue, as well as an aerial search by the Christchurch Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

The helicopter and Kakariki have now left the scene.

Overnight RCCNZ will assess the search activity to date and determine the best options for tomorrow.
