Search Underway for Missing Diver

The Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ) has launched a search for a diver reported missing off the Timaru coast this afternoon.

Two rescue helicopters and a Coastguard vessel from Timaru are en route to the area to search for the diver, who went missing about 2.30pm while diving from a fishing vessel about 20 nautical miles (36km) off the Timaru coast. Some vessels from the local fishing fleet are also understood to be heading to the area to assist with the search.

Weather conditions in the area are described as ideal. 

No further details are available at this stage.  A further update will be provided as any new information comes to light.
