Fox Glacier helicopter crash

One of the rescue helicopters dispatched to Fox Glacier has left the local Search and Rescue centre at Fox Glacier.

It is now flying a paramedic to the crash site. The paramedic will be winched down to the crash to assess the situation and provide assistance as necessary.

Background

A helicopter has crashed on Fox Glacier. It is understood seven people were on board. Four rescue helicopters have been dispatched to the scene, two from Christchurch, one from Greymouth and one from Fox Glacier. A cliff rescue team is on board the helicopter from Fox Glacier.

Update: Coordination of the response to this incident was transferred from the Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand to the Police at approximately 3pm on Saturday, 21 November, 2016.
