Consultation on update to aids to navigation guidance documents
Overview
Maritime NZ is the authority responsible for making sure New Zealand aids to navigation (AtoNs) fit the standards set out in international guidance on AtoNs.
Anyone who wants to install, alter or remove an AtoN must have approval from the Director of Maritime NZ to do so. To make sure we are meeting international standards, we have a formal approval process.
We are currently updating our guidance to make the application process clearer and more accessible. In its final form, the guidance will be available as a set of documents that provide advice and guidance to people who are part of the process of applying for permission to install, alter or remove an AtoN. Once published, they will be available on the Maritime NZ Aids to navigation webpage.
