Certificates of insurance draft guidelines

Maritime NZ is seeking feedback on guidelines for owners of offshore installations obtaining insurance cover.

About this consultation

The draft guidelines provides practical guidance on obtaining appropriate insurance cover or other financial security and navigating the certification process for obtaining certificates of insurance.

The guidelines also include the scaled framework that will apply when determining owners financial assurance requirements under Marine Protection Rules Part 102.

The deadline for making a submission is 5.00pm Tuesday 20 March 2018.

Ministry of Transport Consultation

Following consultation in 2017 on options to improve the financial security regime, the Ministry of Transport consulted on a draft rule amendment to Marine Protection Rule Part 102 and invited feedback from interested people and organisations. The rule has now been updated to reflect the significant cost of a major oil spill and the financial assurance that would be necessary to ensure funds are available in the event they are needed. It increases the maximum requirement for financial assurance from $600m to $800m.
