Search on for man overboard

24 April 2007, 8:00am

Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ) is responding to a man overboard situation about 90kms off the Banks Peninsula coastline.

RCCNZ received a call from the ship’s agent about 6pm this evening reporting that a 58 metre Korean fishing vessel had lost a crewman over the side. A Mayday call for any vessels in the area to assist has been issued and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter is on its way to the scene from Christchurch.

The Rescue helicopter has winching equipment and night vision goggles on board.

Sea and visibility conditions are reported to be favourable.
