Wear the right lifejacket

Take the right lifejacket for each person on board and wear it.

Know your survival techniques

Learn to survive overboard with techniques and precautions.

Avoid high-speed collisions

Stick to 5 knots (a fast-walking speed) when you are within:

  • 200 metres of the shore
  • 200 metres of any boat displaying a diver’s flag
  • 50 metres of any other boat
  • 50 metres of any person who is swimming
  • any time you are landward of a 5-knot buoy.
