Approved training for national and STCW-F certificates

Information for seafarers wishing to work on a New Zealand-flagged ship about training providers who deliver the training programmes required for National and STCW-F certificates. 

Use this page to find training providers approved to deliver the programmes that lead to New Zealand national certificates, and STCW‑F aligned fishing‑vessel certificates. 

If you plan to work on a New Zealand‑flagged ship, you must complete approved training for the certificate you are applying for.

1These training providers are approved by the Director to issue ancillary certificates of proficiency.

2Seafarers attending ancillary refresher courses must provide the training provider with a company letter(s):

  • they have actively participated in the mandatory abandon ship and fire drills (and fast rescue boat drills, if applicable) while completing
  • approved seagoing service performing functions appropriate to the certificate they hold, for a period of at least:
    • 12 months in total during the preceding 5 years or
    • 3 months in total during the preceding 6 months
