How to change the name of a registered owner – Part B ship registration
This is not the same as registering a new owner in the New Zealand Register of Ships. A new owner would need a new Part B registration.
What you need to do
To change the name details of a registered owner, you must:
- tell the Registrar of Ships what your new name is and the address you want us to send the new certificate of registration to. You can do this by email or letter
- send Maritime NZ evidence of your change of name, for example:
- a copy of your marriage certificate
- a deed poll document, or
- the company’s certificate of incorporation (if the owner is a company or other incorporated entity).
You can email, courier, or post your evidence.
Once we receive and process your change of name, we will:
- send you an invoice with a reference number and instructions explaining how to pay
- register your change of name, and
- send your new certificate of registration to you by courier.
